Enjoy the flavours of the hill country of Monferrato, the “Land of Saints”

An essential destination for lovers of places of quiet and meditation

Monferrato is one of Italy’s most famous wine-producing regions, much appreciated for its DOC reds and spumanti like Barbera and Moscato d’Asti.

Monferrato goes back to 21 March 967, the date when Emperor Otto I gave the land to Aleram of Saxony in homage to his boldness and bravery as a fighter. Following his premature death the land passed from hand to hand, from the Paleologus family to the Spanish, to the Gonzagas and the Savoys.

This corner of Piedmont stretches between the Po and the Tanaro, Belbo and Bormida rivers, thus covering the provinces of Alessandria and Asti. Besides having been a land of conquest, Monferrato has always boasted a long monastic tradition and is known as the “Land of Saints”, whose number includes Saint Giovanni Bosco.

And it is an eighteenth-century construction of ecclesiastical origin that today constitutes one of the THI Collection hotels, skilfully remodelled but still a bearer of that fascination and austere rigour of large silent spaces that recall the sacredness of yore. An essential destination for lovers of places of quiet and meditation, enlivened by a renowned gourmet tradition.
