The gardens of the San Clemente

A patchwork of greenery interspersed with quiet courtyards and centuries-old trees makes the luxury five-star San Clemente Palace Hotel & Resort a little natural oasis. Two thirds of the island’s 65,000 square metres still remain as open space, green connecters between the different wings of the hotel.

Although little has remained of these ancient plots, great care has been taken to maintain and respect the original aspect of the natural areas. The park, which offers views of Giudecca and San Marco, still has the hilly conformation and the same types of vegetation as in the past – the perfumed, stately lindens that inspired the fragrance “San Clemente Palace”, exclusively created by Laura Tonatto, cypresses, elms, lindens, and nettle trees.

The internal spaces of the San Clemente Palace are punctuated by numerous open courtyards, including the Corte dell’Orologio, centred around the old well, enriched with plays of water and prized terracotta vases made by the Fornace Impruneta.
