A bit of History

Grand Hotel Sitea: a milestone in the history of hôtellerie

On 28th September 2000 the Grand Hotel Sitea celebrated its 75th year of business. This Hotel represents a milestone in the history of hôtellerie in the region. Behind the scenes at Via Carlo Alberto and behind the façade of the building whose original appearance has undergone numerous changes over the year, the Sitea – as its familiarly known – stay true to its past.

It is a hotel with a great family tradition, blending the modern and the old to reflect the cultural and social evolution of a city that has refused to be defeated by the upheavals of the 20th century. Only closing for business from 1944 and ’45, when it was requisitioned by the R.A.F. troops, the Grand Hotel Sitea has always been a backdrop to life in Turin.

Many celebrities and less-known but longstanding guests have passed through its recently renovated hallways and rooms. The list of celebrated visitors includes Nobel prize-winners, musicians such as Louis Armstrong and show business personalities – all of whom have helped to make the Sitea a household name.

The Grand Hotel Sitea is an icon for those who, whether for business or more recently for pleasure too, stay beneath the Mole Antonelliana building and decide to give Turin more than just a passing glance.
