NOBILITY AT THE THEATRE Linked to the Teatro Carignano from the very start, the Cambio is born as a place of relaxation where court ladies and noblemen could while away the time between one act and the next, devoting themselves to worldly frivolities and the pleasures of conversation.
THE BOURGEOIS REVOLUTION Only a century later, women and men of the rising middle class, of less noble blood but of equal wealth and ambitions, crossed the thresholds of those same rooms and, taking the tastes and behaviours of the aristocracy as a model, perpetuated the rites of conviviality at the Caffé.
