THE ETHEREAL GRACE OF NEOCLASSICISM

THE COMMISSION In 1875 Roberto Bonelli (painter, 1831-1901) executed the decoration of the vault of the main room and the panels over the doors. Of this refined decorative intervention all that remains today are the paintings on glass: a neoclassical allegory of the four seasons and a series of eight paintings portraying cherubs in charming poses.

THE STUDENT’S TOUCH Among the additional paintings stands out the putto with the newspaper and the pince-nez, an unmistakable caricature of Count Camillo Benso di Cavour in the company of his friend and collaborator Costantino Nigra, the work of a pupil of Bonelli’s.
